Welcome to the fund raising site for the European Disabled Golf Association

Day 5 Sunday April 20th

Vale Pisão

Helder Magalhaes cycled the 35 kilometres from Vila do Conde to Vale Pisão and was excellent company on the journey. It is clear to see that the course which is set out in a small valley has been well thought out. The clubhouse comprises of tastefully constructed buildings which blend well into the surroundings and are in keeping with the type of buildings which are still on the site ready for renovation.

Professional Sergio Couto Ouroso had arranged for us to be at the course on this Easter Sunday, one of only a couple of days when the course is actually officially closed. Although Sergio could not be with us, the Director of Golf Jose Manuel Cruz took good care of guiding us around the course.

The Vale Pisão Golf Course fits well into the landscape and features some excellent holes that will test even the very best players, and yet offers the less experienced or even beginner players an experience which will leave them satisfied and wanting to return.

Estela City Golf

Located right in the heart of Porto, Estela City Golf has both practice facilities and a nine holes course to enjoy. The driving range was opened in the early 2000s with the addition of the Jose Lencastre designed course a more recent addition in 2007. City Golf offers a great opportunity for players to hone their existing skills or to learn new ones.

Literally just a few minutes from the centre of the city, it is clear to see why the facility is so popular. Head professional and Commercial Manager for City Golf, Joao Nuno Beires, greeted us and arranged for us to play together with teaching professionals Alberto Jorge and Alan Lopes. As could be expected with four professionals there was some good banter. My par was not good enough and so it was Joao with a birdie that narrowly took the honours.

Quinta do Fojo

II have visited Quinta do Fojo many times over the last 15 of so years and it was my pleasure to return and receive a warm welcome from professional Ramiro Pinto, Candida Santos and member Eduardo Lopes. The centre features a driving range, short game area and six holes Golf course, all of which are well occupied due to it's city location.

We played the first hole, a short par 3 to a green which is above the level of the player. The hole was located at the back of the green and well protected by a bunker which cuts in from the right.

A kind of oasis close to the city of Porto, the Lisbon highway and a large population, the facility offers golfers the opportunity to drop in, play a few holes, hit some balls and take lunch or a drink in a very short time.

Under the management of professional Patricia Brito e Cunha, the club continues to bring new players to the game, especially youngsters.

What a day yesterday. Not only did we catch up the lost time, but we also made it to meet longtime friends Sergio and Andrea for a late dinner. Looking forward to cycling with Helder on this bright Easter Sunday morning.
